Why TCF Style Expo is a must attend Event

Hey Loves,

If you follow me on Instagram/Insta-Stories, you know that I attend The Curvy Fashionista’s Style Expo in Atlanta, GA 8/12-8/13. It was my 1st time attending one of Marie’s events and I was all to eager to hop on a plane to be there to support her. Of course I enjoyed being able to shop with brands & clothing lines that I’m familiar with, but also brands and clothing lines that I wasn’t so familiar with. As a blogger I attend tons of plus events throughout the year and for the most part they are the same. However there was something so awesomely different about the Style Expo. The Style Expo was REAL.

Now I know you’re probably thinking, what do I mean when I say it was real. I sat in all four of the industry panels, all of which were packed with some really informative, knowledgeable & seasoned individuals. Although every panelist was vastly different, the one thing they had in common was they held nothing back. They gave you tips & tricks that you won’t read online. They gave you information that was raw and uncensored. And it was so refreshing to listen.

For me sitting in on each panel you can feel the passion & intensity of what the panelist were discussing. Even if people didn’t agree or didn’t “piggy back” lol you could appreciate the different POV’s. Particularly for the body positive panel discussion I was quite happy that the panelist weren’t afraid to move beyond the flowery rhetoric of how loving your body is easy with unicorns & gumdrops. I love that they talked about the days when they don’t fully love themselves for whatever reason. I loved that my name twin Shaina of Out of the Corner, wanted plus women to be held accountable when it comes to celebrating when brands actually feature size 22 & up. She challenged us to not just speak up when we don’t like something, but also when a brand gives us what we asked for.

Sitting in on the Stylist panel, shout out to my girl Meaghan (in the middle) for being so real about everything. I was really amazed at the honesty of the panelist. They talked about the reality of working for free in the beginning. They talked about understand the business. It’s not just about putting together a good look, but understanding the trends, understanding textures & fabrics. They talked about making a point to intern for someone that will actually teach you, not just send you out for coffee. They talked about having good credit, because most, if not all showrooms require a credit card on file when stylist request items. They talked about carving out your own lane with your work & portfolio. I never had an interest in being a stylist but I completely respect their craft.

One of my favorite panels was the blogger panel. I promise I’m not bias lol. A lot of my faves spoke on this panel and gave some awesome advice on how new bloggers can get started. My favorite moment came from Ty Alexander of Gorgeous in Grey. She said

“For me living is important. I wake up everyday on purpose, to live on purpose, to inspire on purpose. That’s what I do every single day.”

The passion she spoke with really mimicked how many of us feel & why many of continue to blog day in and day out. For once we had an open dialogue about blogging that didn’t include how to monetize, it didn’t include how to use your affiliate links or how to email brands. They gave honest advice on living your life as a blogger. It was so bomb!!!!

Blogger babes!

All in all the TCF Style Expo was an amazing experience. The panels, the networking & the shopping, this is definitely an event I HIGHLY recommend you attend. I can’t wait to see how much bigger & better it will be next year. Thank Marie for having me and I can’t wait to be back next year.

ATGC on the Scene; Design to Inspire w/ LG & Hearst Magazine

Hey Loves,
The other day I had the chance to attend a rather unique event. LG Studios & Heart Magazine teamed up with the Metro NY chapter of American Society of Interior Designers to present designs of 3 amazing women featuring premium kitchen appliances from LG inspired by Nate Berkus. The theme of the contest was “Forever Kitchen” Alex Sobolewski, Courtney Robinson, & Petya Toncheva were the 3 finalist. Three amazing women, three totally different inspirations, but all quite amazing.

The winner of the contest received a cash prize & the new line of premium kitchen appliances from LG. (swanky!)

Artistic Advisor Nate Berkus
Photobooth Fun

Congratulations to Petya Toncheva for her winning design.

It’s always great to see women walk in their passion and major companies like LG & Heart recognize their talent & reward them for it. I had a blast and felt a huge surge of inspiration after leaving this event. For more information about the American Society of Interior Designers, head to their website & social media channels to stay up to date.
See you in my next post.

Simply Stylist Fashion & Beauty Conference

Hey Loves,
The other day I had the opportunity, thanks to People Style Watch to attend the Simply Stylist Fashion & Beauty Conference. It was held here in NY at the W Hotel (oooo fancy right?!?!?!)So naturally I had to find something to wear so I can show up & show. We’ll get into that in my next post. But back to the Conference. Simply Stylist was started by Sarah Boyd (who was fabulous at 7 months pregnant) as a way to bring together those in the beauty & fashion industry and those looking to get into the beauty & fashion industry.
It was a really really really informative day. I loved that while our focus was fashion & beauty a lot of the information and affirmation can be geared toward any blogging topic & life in general. I also enjoyed the fact that the panel featured more than just bloggers. We heard from Youtubers, former Pagent queens, media personalities, and entrepreneurs. Each of that had a story that inspired every attendee
The 1st Keynote speaker Olivia Culpo Moderated by Catt Sadler of E News.

June Ambrose was one of the Keynote speakers and she was just amazing. She has so much experience in the industry and is still so humble, fun & about her business. She so authentically herself that you just want to love her. I think one of my favorite quotes from her was “The only autograph I’ve ever wanted was on a check” I’m telling you I ’bout done fell out my chair. That is the exact reason why I love her.
Celebrity Makeup Artist Amy Nadie & Style Expert Lillian Vazquez

Founder of V Files Julie Anne Quay, Model & Body Activist Ashley Graham & Founder of Bloglovin’ Dan Carlberg

Actress & Blogger Cara Santana Vlogger Tiarra Monet & Blogger Brandi Cyrus
The Brand room. All the Sponsoring brands had booths for use to paruse. The Glam App was giving manicures, hair & make up touch ups. ShopStyle offered some great tips to monetize your blog as well as a juice bar. Dove was had a whole interactive area; a prize wheel & photoshoot area. There were back massages, a fashion illustrator, and so much more.

Some of my favorite looks of the day

Even the men came with it! They looked so good.

My post doesn’t even begin to do this event justice. I really had an amazing time and walked away with such inspiration and a comfort with my blog. This is why I love going to events like Simply Stylist because the day really is all about positivity and us as bloggers, vloggers, content creators have to stick together and be willing to uplift each other. Keep an eye on their website to stay up to date for their 2016 events.
See you in my next post.

ATGC on the Scene| Rigby & Peller

Hey Loves,
Last night I had the awesome opportunity to stop by one of the 13 US locations for Rigby & Peller Lingerie. They are a world renown luxury lingerie company based in the UK that is all about creating an experience when buying undergarments, sleepwear & swimwear. They have dressed many of Hollywood’ s A-list stars, but their most esteemed “client” is H.M Queen Elizabeth II. Yes the Queen herself has experienced the same quality & professionalism of Ridgy & Peller’s Lingerie Styling.

Rigby & Peller has been in business for 75 years and has perfect the art of Lingerie Styling, allowing women to feel & look their best under their clothing. They understand the the right bra can do wonder for a woman physically & mentally. So when I got a chance to experience my own Lingerie Styling session and was quite excited.
The staff take their time getting to know you, what you like, what’s lifestyle like, are you wearing the proper size, what you’re looking for in a bra etc. They make the experience personal so that when you are trying on bras, you know you are wearing a bra that is perfect for you. Sadly my phone died during my fitting, but I can tell you this was the best time I ever had trying on bras. I’m so use to wearing molded ups, but when I tried on a few of this lace bras that don’t molded cups, it was so refreshing.

Their New York store is located on 5th Ave. and is one of 13 locations her in the US. They also have 42 locations worldwide including the UK, China, Germany, Denmark and soon Dubai. They carry 20+ brands & 90 sizes ranging from A-K cups/30-46 bands. I love that Rigby & Peller wants to make sure every woman has a luxury experience and walks away with a undergarments that fit her life but she can alternate through depending out outfit or season as opposed to having 1 basic bra for everything. (I’m so guilty of that.)

Be sure to check out their website to find if there is a location near you. If there is you need to set up a Lingerie Styling appointment ASAP. You’ll thank me later. I also know that they are a bit pricey, and while I know we’re all on some sort of budget for whatever reason. But I promise you, this will be an investment in yourself. Think of it as splurge item, or a treat for yourself. It’s totally worth every penny.
Check out their website and be sure to follow them on social media.

#PlusisEqual Took Over Times Squre

Lane Bryant Takes Over Times Square
Hey Loves,
If you don’t already know, you should, plus size retail giant Lane Bryant took over Times Square & social media on Monday afternoon with this #PlusisEqual campaign. A lot of things have been speculated when we all saw the 2 page advert in Vogue magazine. For once I was off work, and I made sure I was in the middle of it all. I think the energy of the day was on level 10. For the most part everyone was about being positive and just enjoyed being in the midst of something that hasn’t been done before by a plus brand.

And I’m so proud to announce that it is sponsored by Lane Bryant & their new Livi Active Line. You all know I have raved about the clothes from the Livi Active line. Marc Jacbos x Zana Bayne Capsule Collection

Hey Loves,

Now with Valentine’s Day coming up in a few days, I didn’t want to do outfit/date night posts. I think so many other bloggers have done them and have given some really great options for beautiful dresses for that special day. This post is for my girls that like to be ALL THE WAY naughty for Valentines day. For the girls that know the real fun happens after you come home from that date. Thanks to my blogger boo Sarah of Curvily, she invited me out to the Marc Jacobs & Zana Bayne capsule collection event the other night. I jumped at the chance to not only hang with Sarah, but to see the fabulous oh so naughty pieces that Zana Bayne created.

Zana Bayne is all about quality leather pieces. Completely risque, fun, playful and allows your imagination to wonder. There is a certain excitement that comes with the thinking about the endless possibilities of each of her pieces in this collection.
Studded Collar with chain
Same studded collar without chain
Yes these are heart shaped pasties!
Zana Bayne’s valentine’s capsule collection in my opinion is not just about sexuality, but sensuality. Boarding the line between pain & pleasure. Allowing ourselves to let go of our inhibitions and become more aware of what our bodies like and what our bodies need.
A little bit of pain can sometimes bring so much pleasure 😉
I’m sure some of you are like OMG what is Shay doing. lol To be honest I think we as plus size women should be okay with exploring our sexuality with our husbands, boyfriends on “friends with benefits”. And for those women or couples that engage in a BDSM lifestyle, Zana Bayne’s capsule collection with Marc Jacobs is something you should totally check out. Even if you are into the BDSM lifestyle, maybe you want to bring a spark into the bedroom fro Valentine’s day, or even for future fun this collection is one of quality.
Thanks Sarah for the invite & Happy Valentine’s Day loves. Enjoy!
xoxo
