As a woman, particularly a plus size woman, personal hygiene is very important to me. I’ve always been someone that sweats easily (something I never liked). But instead of fighting it, I’ve learned to find products that work for me to keep me feeling fresh at all times. For this post, I teamed up with Dove to talk about how upgrading to their new Dove Advanced Care Anti-Perspirant has helped me feel fresh longer. Dove Advance Care offers 48 hours of odor and wetness protection plus added skincare benefits of Dove ¼ moisturizers and NutriumMoisture for softer, smoother underarms.
I have a confession to make. I now run a 3rd Instagram page. You read that right a 3rd Instagram page. You all know (at least you should know lol) my main page @Thickgrlscloset. In 2016 I started a woman empowerment page @IEmbodyMe, which has so amazing since starting it. Now as a result of my time with Jenny Craig and for my own personal accountability, I started my plus size fitness Instagram page @ShayShapesUp.
It’s that time of the year when many folks make resolutions to go to the gym more, workout more, eat healthier and all that jazz. If you’re like me and absolutely loath wearing my ugly sweat pants to the gym the options in this post will make you want to go to the gym. Why cause if though you’ll be all sweaty…at least you look cute right?! Let’s take a look

There you have it. Happy Shopping. I hope if you started out this year on a health journey, I hope you push yourself to stick with it all year. See you in my next post.
I officially completed my 1st week of NutriSystem. I set my own personal goal of losing 6 pounds. Sadly I’ve only lost 4 pounds. I know, I know, I know some of you are like 4 pounds, that’s great! But I am a bit bummed that I’m 2 pounds shy of my own personal goal. Which means I have some work to do this week. I do think this week may be a little easier with weight lose because last week mother nature decided to rear her ugly head (time of the month) and I’m always ultra bloated during those days. I know TMI…bare with me ya’ll lol
Overall the 1st week went well in terms of me sticking with the meals and the plan for the week. I got all my water in every day, I worked out 5 days last week. I just need to keep it up for this week. I’m setting another personal goal of 5 pounds for this week. Hopefully I can actually reach that this week.
Also for this week, I’m giving myself a personal goal of drinking 1 gallon of water a day. For some that sounds like a lot. But as a part of the Nutrisystem program, I’m suppose to be drinking 64 ounces a day. Last week I was drinking about 100 ounces day with no problem. A gallon is 128 ounces, so only an extra 28 ounces a day shouldn’t too hard. I was able to get through a gallon today without a problem, so I think I cam make it for the rest of the week.
Truthfully, I’m starting to see the effects of drinking so much water, I’m in the bathroom ALL THE TIME, and all the toxins with my body are coming out through my skin. This is definitely the ugly side of drinking so much water. I know I just have to get over this hump of break outs and I should be good.
I am looking forward to embarking on this 2nd week of Nutrisystem. This should be good. I know this was but “raw” but this process is also about being honest with you guys about what I’m going through while doing this program.
See you in my next update!!
As you all know or should know, I have started my NutriSystem program. I did a starter post on why I went with NutriSystem. You can check that out here. I have just completed day 3. It’s been a shift definitely. But I’m doing good so far. I’ve been getting in all my water, having pre-packed my meals makes getting up in the morning super easy. And I’ve been really sticking to just the food sent to me. Which is saving me A LOT of money lol.
Honestly for me the major change that I have to make with this process, particularly this 1st week, is chewing my food. Yes you read that right, chewing my food. It may seem simple, but I’ve always been a fast eater. I don’t allow my food to fully digest so I end up being hungry again much quicker after a meal. But with Nutrisystem, everything is pre-planned so I can’t just take from the next day because everything will be thrown off. The 1st day I felt it the most.
While I am a fast eater, all of my food is portion controlled. I can’t just go back and get a second plate. THERE IS NO SECOND PLATE. lol I can’t gobble my food down and be done. I have to take my time, take smaller bites and really force myself to chew my food. About 10 years ago, my Aunt underwent gastric bypass surgery. And I remember her telling me that as a apart of her process after having the surgery, the nurse would tell her that with every bite of food they should count to 10 while chewing. To ensure that all their food was properly chewed and easier to digest.
That story always comes to mind when I’m eating. Now I don’t necessarily count all the way to 100 but I count to about 30 or 40. I also couple my meals with water. So as I’m eating, I’m drinking my water. That does help me to fill up faster and feel filled longer. I know that once my 1st week is up, I’ll be allowed a little more options in between my meals. But for now, my goal is to make sure I chew everything thoroughly. #NSNation
The title pretty much speaks for itself. Yes on Monday Oct. 5th for the next 3 months I will be trying out & reviewing the NutriSystem program. Let me say that they are sponsoring me for the next 3 months, but this journey is all about me and my health. Many of you know I am quite active, I’m always a girl on the go. But with my schedule, I am just LAZY in the kitchen. Even meal planning on Sundays for is like UGH! On top of that, my budget just does not accommodate the food lifestyle I would love to live.
I’ve been reading up on NutriSystem for a couple years now, but never actually took the plunge to try it out. But lately my body hasn’t been feeling the same. Although I’m on my feet all the time, walk 3-4 miles is super easy, making it through a Zumba or Latin Heat class is super easy for me, I still feel sluggish. And I figured, it’s clearly not the activity but what I’m eating.
When i got the chance to try out Nutrisystem, I jumped at the chance. I thought this would be perfect for me. I can lay out my meals of the week, throw them in a ziploc bag, put them in the fridge and pull them out each day when I’m on my way to work. Having gone through all the options I was sent, I’m really excited to start my journey, and see where my body is in 3 months.
If you’ve been following my blog, you know I’ve done CeCe’s #PspFit bootcamp a number of times. It is an amazing program for plus size women who are all about having healthy curves and feel supported. I said it then, and I’ll say it now, I DO NOT workout or eat healthy in order to be skinny! I DO NOT do this in order to fit a smaller size in my clothes. I do it to be a HEALTHIER me. I know when my body feels off. I know when I don’t feel right. Joining NurtiSystem is about my health & me taking the right steps to feeling better.
I really want to bring you all along with me on the journey. I think you all would help keep me accountable. Be sure to check back every week for my updates. Thanks for reading & wish me luck.
See you in my next post.
This post is sponsored, but all expressions and opinions are my own.
I always believe good has a way of working things out to be in your favor. If you read my Christmas wishlist post you know that one of my items on the list was the FT4 Polar Heart Rate Monitor watch. To be honest I didn’t bank on getting it, but a girl can hope right?! But God made a way (through the blog of course) and I just couldn’t wait to get in the gym, just so I could use the watch.
I must say I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS WATCH! Like there is no other way to put it. It is super accurate and easy to use. When you receive the package you have…
- The Watch
- The Heart Rate Censor (the black strap pictured above)
- The User Guide
The instructions take you through how to set up your watch, making sure you enter your correct height & weight along with gender and age. When actually using the watch, there is no extraness (yup I made up a word) involved. I strapped the censor around me, hit the start button on the watch and I was good to go.
Can you tell I put in work. This was my 1st time using the watch last week to kick off the new year.
I’m usually one that likes have the “bells & whistles” when it comes to technology. But this is a very basic heart rate monitor that allows you to keep your workouts and calorie/heart rate tracking simple. If you are considering purchasing this watch or any other Polar products
, I highly recommend them. Their products are of great quality, accurate & easy to use.

The title kind of says it all. NO I WON’T STOP THIS BLOG.But starting in 2014 I am creating a very informal blog for my health journey. It will be called Shay SHAPES Up If you all have been following me for some time you all know that I have been working out and make the choices to be a healthier Shainna. So that blog will be a place for me to store all my gym pics, food pics, recipes, and workout ideas.
It will also be a place for me to discuss why I work out and why I eat healthy. And to talk more about what #PSPfit is. Since a lot of you tend to ask what it is and how you can get started in it.
I just wanted one central place to keep everything and if I need to look back I know where to go. I would love it if you all would support me and follow that blog as well.
Until next time loves
