#PlusisEqual Took Over Times Squre - A Thick Girl's Closet

#PlusisEqual Took Over Times Squre

11:47 AM

Hey Loves,

If you don't already know, you should, plus size retail giant Lane Bryant took over Times Square & social media on Monday afternoon with this #PlusisEqual campaign. A lot of things have been speculated when we all saw the 2 page advert in Vogue magazine. For once I was off work, and I made sure I was in the middle of it all. I think the energy of the day was on level 10. For the most part everyone was about being positive and just enjoyed being in the midst of something that hasn't been done before by a plus brand.

So after changin 4 times Monday morning, I finally settled on wearing my Rue 107 skirt. I thought the black & white paired perfectly. I added this booties I got from payless last year (which are my faves) along with my new new obsession; this fringe back from Catherines. The look came together the way I envisioned even after changing multiple times.

So yes the Wendy Williams made an appearance. To be honest I am still confused as to why she was there. 1. She hasn't be plus size in years. 2. She has been very open about her "not so positive" (putting it lightly) views on plus women. 3. She defends the views of youtube Nicole Arbour. But hey the wanted a celeb that would draw folks in, I guess it made sense.

After we all left Times Square the festivities continued at the Flag ship store on 34th st. You know the deal, pictures, champagne & treats. But loads of fun!

I was quite happy to meet Olympian Amanda Bingson. I loved her picture on the cover of ESPN's body issue, and as a former hammer thrower (in college) I made a point to snap a picture with her. I love that she represents the plus community in a different aspect.

Naturally got a picture with Ashley Graham. We're clearly besties now!

I am such an amazing day on Monday. The whole event from Times Square to the store was fun & just a ball of positive energy. I know I've seen so many mixed reviews regarding the #PlusisEqual movement. For me personally no, I don't look like any of the models in the campaign, but I know have the ability in inject myself & find my space. I don't feel any less beautiful or and less represented. I think this a great step in the plus industry. And a reminder to people that we are fabulous, beautiful & dominate in many aspects of the life; whether it be fashion, business or athletics.

So there you have it loves. I vlog the whole event so head to my youtube to see what you missed. #PlusisEqual and I will see you in my next post.

xoxo
Shay
