5 Ways I Rewrite the Rules - A Thick Girl's Closet

5 Ways I Rewrite the Rules

11:40 AM

Hey Loves,

Lately I have been on the path of self reflection, not intentionally, but I am quite grateful. It also happens to coincide with my collaboration with Always Infinity. As a woman, a plus size woman, a plus size woman of color, I am constantly on the move and dealing with tons of emotions whether I want to or not. However I have made a point to stop & reflect on things I need to work on, and things that I have changed even if I didn't notice it. This post is talking all about the 5 ways I #rewritetherules.
1. Travel
There is something so amazing about taking yourself out of your normal element and going somewhere where it's culturally different. Somewhere you've never been. Somewhere where you don't know anyone. Maybe somewhere where you don't know the language. It's strangely awkward and fun to not know the language and to not what the street signs say. But ultimately so rewarding in the end when you've figured out your way.

2. Move beyond being uncomfortable
I am the first to not do something because is makes me uncomfortable. And that very thought process has kept me from wearing things I like. It has kept me from hanging out with certain people, it's kept me from going places & doing things that I've wanted. I use to be uncomfortable with the idea of traveling alone. I use to be uncomfortable with showing skin. I use to be uncomfortable with not getting along with everyone I knew. The list goes on. I'm not sure where the turn around happened, but I slowly but surely started to release some of the discomfort. With that came traveling to Costa Rica on my own (with my very minimal spanish), wearing what I want, loving my body for what it is scars, stretch marks & all, as well as being able to say "we don't get along & that's fine"

3. Create Experiences
One thing that I've been so grateful to blogging for, is the friends I've made. Women who I can confide in, women who I can travel with it, women who most certainly will be in my wedding or attending my wedding. With some of my closest blogging friends, they have crossed into being my friends beyond the blog. We create memories and experiences that we know will be the glue to our friendship. Experiences that go beyond, Instagram & Snapchat.

4. Cry
I'm a cry baby all the time. I cry at watching wedding videos on Youtube or watching those videos where soldiers come home to surprise their loved ones. But there is something about reflecting on your love for someone in your life that will always push me over the edge emotionally. Whether it's intimacy or platonic love, sometimes the important loves in your life hold a special place in your heart. Sometimes you have to let your self feel, and let them know how much you care. Let them know that no matter how far away they are, who ever they choose to love, they will always be important to you.

5. Live on Purpose
This is something I didn't really understand. But it took another blogger living it so passionately that it clicked. While at The Curvy Fashionista's Style Expo, one of my favorite bloggers Ty of Gorgeous in Grey spoke on how everyday she wakes up to live on purpose. She's passionate on purpose, she's black on purpose, she's places things & people in her life on purpose. She really touched something in my heart. It made so much sense. Since hearing her, I make a point to wake up and do what I love, to work hard, to be myself, to live everyday with passion.

There you have it. Let me know what are some ways that you #rewritetherules of your own life in the past 5 days, month or even the past year. See you in my next post.

xoxo
Shay
