How to Find Your Style

Hey Loves,
This post was inspired by one of you. A young lady reached out to me via my FB fan page asking how does someone with no style (her words not mine lol) can learn to find her signature style or own fashion sense. When I sat down to write this post I  had to look back at my own style journey. Because I know my style has definitely evolved over the last 5 years as a blogger. So let’s get started.

The truth is, asking how does one become stylish or how does one find style, is a very loaded question. Mainly because style & fashion is subjective. You have to find what you like, because at the end of the day you have to wear the clothes.
1. Understand that style is evolution
What you’re wearing now will change with time or even with what’s happening in your life. What you’re wearing in college will change once you enter grad school or when you start a new job or when you become a mother etc.
2. Wear what works for you & not for someone else
We all get inspiration from different places; magazine IG, bloggers etc. But they are just that, inspiration. How I or another blogger will wear something doesn’t mean you have to wear it in the same way. Put your own spin or touch to your outfit. It will fit you better.
3. Be open
This one can go many different directions. A lot of times we get caught up in getting the exact outfit on the mannequin or we don’t allow ourselves to experiment with our clothes that we put our own self in a rut. It’s fine to see a top on 1 mannequin and pants or a skirt on another mannequin and fuse them together. Sometimes that may take a little bit of creativity to see beyond what’s exactly in front of you, but finding your style requires your creativity.
4. Experiment
This is important because you will begin to see what you love, like and don’t like. Experiment with color or print or textures or cuts, or a trend or silhouette. We need to get out of the idea that because we are plus size we shouldn’t or can’t wear something. If you want to try on that pencil skirt, or shift dress or jumpsuit, try it on. They only way to find out if something works for you is if you try it. If that means you have to go to multiple stores then so be it.
5. You will have hits & misses
Even me as a blogger sometimes I’ll wear something & it’s like I’m slaying for all the Gods. And then other times I’ll wear something & it’s like um no girl STOP. And that’s fine. You are not going to hit the mark every time, something your tried on in the store may look completely different when you get home. Fashion & style is about trial & error. So when you come across something that you would consider and “error” don’t get discourage, just keep it moving.
6. Fit & Flattering
I know some folks hate the word flattering. But when something flatters your body, it doesn’t mean it makes you look skinny. It means it fits the body you have in the way it’s suppose to fit. When your clothes fit your body correctly you will get more wear out of it
There you have it loves. Finding your style is all about you. Take your time, and find what works for you. Happy Shopping. See you in my next post.

How Would You Style It| Eloquii Racer Front Plaid Jumpsuit

0
Hey Loves,
So I am excited to roll out a new series here on the blog entitled How Would You Style It. Often times I get questions on my tumblr for different ideas on how to style a certain item, or what to wear to a certain event. So I thought what if I did a post showing how I would style something in hopes of giving you all inspiration. These post are different than outfit post because 1. I’m clearly not wearing the item. 2. Sometimes inspiration hits me & I want to share with you immediately.
For the 1st post I “styled” this new Racer Front Jumpsuit from Eloquii. When I saw it online, I screamed and gave Eloquii 3 snaps for this jumpsuit. It’s super cute, clearly very chic & I knew right away what I WOULD wear with this item if I had it in my closet.
I paired the jumpsuit with these super cute Enzo Angiolini dress sandals that I featured in my Cute 3 Inches & UNDER post. I chose this shoe because it doesn’t compete with the jumpsuit but is still very cute. And then for an added pop of color, I went with this yellow tribal laser cut clutch from INC International Concepts.
Think of it as sharing my polyvore ideas on a weekly basis. So how would you style this jumpsuit? Let me know!

Fashion and Function

How many of us hate when mother nature forces us to wear items of clothing that just totally clashes with our oh so great outfits. My issue i when it rains. I do love the rain boots I already have, however they just don’t work when I’m heading to work in a great skirt and top and I have on rain boots with rainbow peace signs on them lol I know you all know what I mean.

Henry Ferrera already offers great options in footwear for men and women. But he took on the idea of re-working how we wear rain boots. Being in NJ and frequently working and walking around the city of NY I have seen many people wearing these adorable ankle rain boots. So you know I went on the hunt to find out all I can about them.

The two do come in different colors.

Henry Ferrera rain boots can be found on different online stores such as Overstock.com Loehmans.com for a rather affordable price. I think they offer great balance in fashion and function. I mean of course you know that you have rain boots on your feet. But it’s the updated modern version of the ones your mother made made you wear. lol

It’s time we bridge the gap between from fashion and function. What do you all think? Until next time.

Street Style

I’m really getting use to networking the blog at random moments in time. As I was out doing some retail therapy today. I made a quick stop in Fashion to Figure. And as I was getting ready to check out, I noticed one of the sales associate had on this incredibly adorable outfit on. I knew in that moment I had to ask her can I take a picture of her.

She did the preppy look very well. That bow tie is everything!
And check out how she wore her leggings…love it!

Until next time ladies

Her Royal Flyness

A lot of ladies always ask me where do I get my inspiration from. And a lot of times I just scratch the surface. But to be honest I grab my inspiration from so many places. Of course other blogs dedicated to curvy women. Tumblr (i mean who doesn’t get inspired by Tumblr), fashion magazines, but really my inspiration is very much stereotypical. A lot of it comes from celebrities and models (yup straight size women). some of my favorite fashion icons are Rihanna, Cassie, Zoe Saldana, and Solange, just to name a few. When ever I see them in something that I like, I go into shopping mode. I either end up at the mall or I go shopping in my closet because I’m trying to find my own spin on what they have.

Clearly you all know I’m gonna find the budget friendly version, and tweaking it to fit my body. I look at women like Chanel Iman and salivate…not cause I wanna be her body size, but cause 9 times out of 10 I want the bag on her arm or the shoes on her feet.

I do follow quite a few straight size fashion blogs, because I am infatuated with how these women put outfits together. You all know I don’t let my body dictate what I wear. I’m always trying something different. I think that’s what fashion means to me. Being inspired, feeling good in what you’re wearing.

My favorite fashion bloggers
Dulce Tejeda from Dulcecandy
 Alissa from Stylishcurves

I spend a lot of time cruising different blogs just to see what other woman are wearing, to see what’s in (of course). And naturally I do a lot of online window shopping . One cause most of the time I’m broke lol but places will put together looks as advertisements for different items, and what ever catches my eye, I make a point to recreate.
So all in all my inspirations comes from all over. like most you, but I figured I would answer all the questions in one shot!

Where do you get your inspiration?

I’m on Team Dereon

I'm on Team Dereon

Yes I am on #teamdereon I am quite proud of Beyonce and her line Dereon. I usually don’t really care for urban lines, because they’re always gaudy and sometimes just straight up ugly. But today as I was out shopping for a christmas party I’m going to this weekend, I stopped in  a random shoe store. I was looking for some black pumps. because I realized I own no black pumps (crazy right!!!) but anyway, just as I was about to give up hope, I saw the quilted black pumps with the Deron symbol. They’re actually nice in person. AND THEY HAD THEM IN MY SIZE #EPICWIN.
The store I was in happen to have more of her pumps so I tried on a few. and fell in love with all the ones I tried on. I ended up buying the first ones in the pic above. They seem plain but they have a nice surprise on the heel. You will see more about them when I do the outfit post about my Christmas look.
I think what I enjoy about these shoes is that they are completely covered with the symbol of Dereon. She could have very well made them all sparkly with all kinds of colors and chains and hooks and what not lol I like that she kept them simple but still very much Bey’s style!

Be sure to enter the GIVE-A-WAY!!!

Navy for the Interview

Navy for the Interview

So I know you all are wondering. I have an interview for a media agency on Thursday, and I don’t believe in following the typical standards for going to inteviews. I don’t want to be in a boring gray or black suit. I like to have fun and feel great in what ever I have on. So THANK GOD for things like Polyvore, because the ideas that run wild in my mind, allow me to play virtual dress up. When I was at the gym, this is what I came up with. An aline skirt,  a simple white button up, a navy blue blazer, leopard print belt black wedges and a blue bag.
Now of course you know I would want to find the cheaper versions of all of these. buuuuut you get the point. So I will be trying my best to put this outfit together. I am on the hunt for pretty much all of these items.
But about my interview….I will be interviewing for Zenith Media, they do mostly media buying and what not. And deal with a lot of big name brands. They have a 3 month rotaional training program, with a possibility of job placement after the program. I really want this. I pray to God this comes through for me. Lord knows I need this. This could help me career wise as well as help the blog.

So what do you think?

Wear Simple & Fierce Meet

Wear Simple & Fierce Meet

So I was cruising the blogs and I saw a Dorothy Perkins post on Stylish Curves, and I as i was looking through the dresses on the website, I saw this great Ponte Dress. If I could afford it I would so buy and this is the idea of an outfit that I had in mind. I love that the dress is very simple. Not much to it. But this is when we can great creative. I do believe that not everything has to match. as long as it “goes together” I say wear.
And in case you haven’t noticed I love color. Part of me wanted to put a colored belt on but I felt like that was to much witht the shoes and bag. Maybe if I was doing all black shoes and bag then a colored belt would be perfect….(but i digress)
Im really into spiked jewelry. I’m planning to do a couple DIY earrings. I figure it will be super easy, but will make a world of a difference. The ring when i saw in online I just had to add to the outfit. I can’t afford it but its nice to look. Right?
And the lipstick, as a women of color, for the longest time I was afraid of colored lipstick, but recently I have been rockin my pink and red lipstick, and I want to get really daring with this color.

Welp hope you guys like it! If i had the money I would so do an outfit post for this lol love you guys

xoxo
