I get asked this question a lot. So I figured I would address it finally. I am an avid American Apparel shopper. I own 3 pairs of disco pants and a pair of leggings. Now let me be clear these pants DO NOT come in plus size. They only go up to an xl and if AA goes up to a 2xl its only in basic things like t-shirt and camis. However the xl disco pants and the large & xl leggings can stretch to a certain degree.
This is when you have to know & understand your body. I’m built relatively straight, I don’t have very big hips and I my butt isn’t very big so with a little work I can fit into the disco pants and be comfortable. I would say if you have large hips or you gotta donk (aye aye aye lol) honestly you will have trouble getting them on and zipping them up. And if you are able to fit into them you will be rather uncomfortable.
Like many of you I didn’t think I could ever wear disco pants. I was never shy about walking around in American Apparel, cause truth be told I love the store. But I would just browse with my besties and that would be it. It wasn’t until I saw Brittany from Pockets and Bows wearing the black disco pants about a year & 1/2 ago. She wasn’t the size she is now and thought if she could do it why can’t I.
I purchased my 1st pair in December 2012 right before the new year. They were a beautiful red color, I still love those. Then my guy got me a black pair & a purple pair for Christmas.
For my tall girls, disco pants WILL fit you. I stand 6’0 tall & I never worry about my ankles being cold lol.
The 1st few times you will fight to get them on. It may take some work to get them on. However over time you will see that they become easier to put on.
Then I purchased the black leggings in the spring of 2013. (Best damn pair of leggings I ever owned) When I wear them they aren’t see through or thin. And again they are fit prefect for my height.
The point of it all is that we as curvy/plus size women can shop in American Apparel, however it is all about knowing what will & won’t work for your body. Don’t hesitate to at least try them on. You may be surprised.
