How CLEAR Saved me at the Airport

Hey Loves,

How many times while going through security at the airport, you’ve walked by these machines labeled CLEAR. I’ve never thought twice about them until heading to Atlanta recently. Clear saves you time and I promise, I want to kiss the person that created this. Read on to find out how CLEAR saved me at the Airport.

So, here is some back story. I left work at 3:30. I was hopping on the bus to head to Laguardia Airport. The ride should’ve taken no more than an hour. The ride was smooth, nothing out of the ordinary. As we were pulling up to the airport, the bus driver makes the an announcement saying that terminal B will be the last stop. My flight was leaving from terminal C.

Pressed for time, I hop off the bus prematurely and started walking hoping to catch one of the shuttles going to terminal. Getting to Terminal B, I did see the shuttle that was going to terminal C. Unfortunately it was packed to the brim and definitely weren’t letting people on. Now I’m starting to hit panic mode because it’s almost 5, my flight is scheduled to leave at 5:55 and I still was staring at traffic at terminal B.

I make the choice to hop an Uber to go to terminal C. After having a minor heart attacks because my Uber driver was driving as if my name was Miss Daisy, I get to terminal C at 5:30. That leaves me with 25 minutes to get through security and get to my gate. BUT when I see that security line, all I could do was laugh to myself. I just KNEW I wasn’t make my flight. Feeling defeated, I walked to the ticket counter to ask when the next flight will be. Homegirl said ‘this is our last flight out today and our next one will be Tuesday.’ I promise you my eyes flew out of my head. After informing her that I was suppose to be on the 5:55 flight, she let me know that the plane wasn’t at the gate so I could still make the flight.

That’s all I needed to hear. I ran for the security line because I knew it was ungodly long. The woman at the counter did not give me a departure time so I didn’t want to drag my feet. I LOATHE with all of my being, being late for a flight or missing a flight. The hassle and the COINS it takes to get on another flight is too stressful.

Anyhow, as I’m heading back to security I see the CLEAR kiosk. IDK what clicked in my head but something told me to ask about this service. A very nice guy by the name of Markes from Haiti made sure to explain everything to me and ultimately helped me get signed up. It was super easy. They took finger prints, scans of my eyes and scanned my ID. And 1, 2, 3, I was signed up. He walked me to the VERY SHORT security line. When I tell you I got through security in 15 minutes tops….GIRL!!!!!

So what is CLEAR and how does it work? CLEAR is a membership service that you pay for yearly. A yearly subscription is $179. IF you’re a Delta SkyMiles customer, you get a discount. CLEAR uses biometrics to confirm your identity. It uses you finger prints, and irises to create a code specific to you. I know some people thinking about “big brother” watching you. Quite honestly I doesn’t bother me. If it gets me through security in a fraction of the time, I’m all for it.

The entire time all I could do was laugh at myself because I truly couldn’t believe that after the ordeal I had trying to get to the gate, not only was I going to make my flight, I had time to sit down, get a beer (a 23oz Blue Moon to be exact) and write this blog post.

The next time you’re in a bind at the airport, give CLEAR a try. You can check their website to find out where their kiosk are located. I know $179 seems a bit steep, but think about how often you travel, and how much time you could save by skipping those ridiculous security lines.

Check out my vlog on my YouTube channel of my time at the 5th annual TCF Style Expo, it was a good time. Also check out more travel post here. See you in my next post.

My friends are always raving about Clear and Global Entry, since my home base isn’t the states right now it doesn’t make sense to get it. I wish Europe would do something similar. Also certain travel credit cards will reimburse you for the fee, so it’s a double win.

Wow! I haven’t seen Clear or maybe I haven’t paid attention to it. It could certainly be an asset for frequent travel. I’m always concerned about safety, but now days no matter what you do, safety is not always guaranteed. Thanks for sharing.

I love clear, I used a promo code trial and I was able to use it for 3 months and it worked out great. Haven’t actually bought a yearly subscription but if you fly often, its def worth the service. I do have precheck and global entry
