Topped with a Crown

Hey Loves,

This entire post was inspired by my girl Essie. The other day she did a post about not letting anyone take your crown. Now I must admit, I was intending on doing this post with the crown. But It's Friday, and when I walked into work, I felt like wearing a crown. So I immediately went for the large rose crown from the accessories line Mordekai by Ken Borochov

My outfit, was on the whim, but I wanted to wear my rue 107 skirt but wanted to wear it differently than I normally would. And this is what I came up with.

Shirt: 5 Preview| Skirt: Rue107| Shoes: Shoedazzle| Crown: Mordekai ny Ken Borochov

I Remember when I met you...#TBT

Hey Loves,

One thing I pride myself on as a blogger is make sure I keep my relationships with other bloggers strong. Let's be honest, at some point we were all that "new blogger" and you look up to all the seasoned bloggers. And you say to yourself

"oh I love this person's blog"

"oh I love that person's blog"

And some times it's almost borderline fandom. I'm not gonna lie, when I started blogging I was addicted to Gabi and Nadia (as most tend to be) They were the 1st blogs I started to follow. And then I gradually grew to follow a lot of other blogs.

And I got to thinking, do I remember how I met some of my blogger loves? So that is the point of this post. I want you guys to comment below on how or when you met your favorite blogger(s).

3 Way Denim

Hey Loves,

I've done a post like this before. I've said this before, we all need staples in our wardrobe. It's always good to have pieces that can be worn multiple ways. It allows for you to be able to change things up and be creative in your outfit choices.

When I bought this light wash denim top from Target, I almost put it back. At the time I was like, I need to hold on to my money. But I've only had it for about a month and I have worn it inside and out. I can honestly say that I got my money's worth with this top. I know that Target does have a few dark washes and Forever 21 has great options as well.

Look 1:
I wore this to the Simple Be fall preview dinner back in July. It was simple and professional. Great to network, but still very much me. I wore the shirt open, and added a belt like I always do.

ATGC on the Scene; #ASDenim Event

Hey Loves,

If you read my outfit post a couple days ago, and follow me on instagram, you all would know that I attend the Ashley Stewart Denim event. It was held at their NY flagship store on 125th st. It was a simple gathering open to the public so that we all can be a part of their release for their new 5 pocket jean. I truly had a blast. Saw some of my favorite models, PR reps and the head ladies of Ashley Stewart. I came ready, I enjoyed the fashion show and just being amongst other awesome people.

Save the Date: Pretty in Pink Charity Fashion Show

Hey Loves,

That's right it's that time again folks. Curvy Closets (the brain child of Domonique Revere-Lincoln and plus model Collen Stovall) is having their 2nd annual fashion show. This year's theme is Pretty in Pink and it is a charity event to be held at The Crane Arts in Philly on the October 12.

And as you can see that the beautiful Allison Mcgevna graces the flyer for this event. She will be the lovely host for the evening, so I already know that it will be an awesome event. There will be a lot in store for this event. Great designers that have the curvy women in mind, even a student designer competition.

The proceeds are going to Hairless 4 her Awareness; a non profit organization that has become a strong support system for patients without health coverage and adult women under forty. Known for their heart-tugging visual campaigns, Hairless 4 Her Awareness is gearing up to become a leader in breast cancer awareness.

Last year I had the pleasure of attending the 1st show and it was a great experience. I met so many of my favorite bloggers, models, and plus industry moguls. I had an absolute blast last year, and I expect nothing short of amazing. Hope to see you all there.

Denim & White

Hey Loves,

I thought I would try something new...wearing pants! I KNOW RIGHT! It's crazy. As I was getting ready for the Ashley Stewart event, I knew I wanted to go comfy as well as chic. But I knew I wanted to wear pants. I got this white linen pants from my booskie Kelly of Masque Mag at our curvy closet shopping event. I left them in my drawer because I have been waiting for the right time to wear them.

And you all know me, last minute is how I get dress. So lets get into it.

Top: Target| Pants: Jones New York| Shoes: Payless| Belt: Fashion to Figure| Jewelry: Various Places

I was so proud of myself...I was about to keep my pants white lol You know that's hard to in NY lol

Needless to say I really loved this outfit. The Ashley Stewart event was a blast. I saw some familiar faces and had a few laughs. Recap of that event coming soon. Until next time loves.

A Trip to Maine & Rhode Island pt.4

Hey Loves,

So the last day of my glorious trip in Newport, Rashad gave me a very extensive tour of St. George's School where he attended high school, and also spent time as a teacher.Which I must say St. George's has an absolutely beautiful campus.

The outside of St. George's campus. The chaple that you see in the background was so beautiful.

My view when I woke up Monday morning on St. George's campus. Before heading to the beach.

After seeing the campus and learning more about him, we made the quick walk down to the beach. I just couldn't wait to get my feet in some water. It was a perfect time to wear my bikini and awesome yellow scarf all from Forever 21

Giving you Essie Golden Realness lol

I'm on a mission to live my life carefree

So there you have it. Maine and Rhode Island, were absolutely beautiful. I was so nice to get out of the NY/NJ area for a couple days. Just to see things and places that are different. Just to know that there is a world outside my bubble, is rather refreshing. Couldn't ask for anything better. Until next time loves

A Trip to Maine & Rhode Island pt.3

Hey Loves,

After the beautiful wedding, Sunday morning Rashad and I hit the road in route to Newport, RI. Having never been to Rhode Island, I was completely excited. Our 1st stop was the Newport Jazz Festival/ (Rashad had the ultimate hook up lol)

The festival was held at Fort Adams. It was pretty awesome to see and be amongst such history.

I gotta say our view was fantastic.

It was so nice to be out there. I mean we danced, we listen to so great jazz music, we ate, we watched the beautiful water and people on their boats. It was magical almost. After a few hours of great music, Rashad showed me Bellevue and Ocean Drive where the disgustingly rich have houses lol And to top of the night we sat and watched the sunset...a girl couldn't ask for anything better.

Of course no trip is complete if I didn't have an impromptu photo shoot right?! lol and Rashad was the perfect person to take my pictures. He got some great shots.

Again check out more pictures on my facebook fan page. Stay tuned for another post. Until next time loves.

An Oldie but a Goodie

Hey Loves,

This is just a quick post. So yesterday, my friend Kyle's daughter Kailyn was baptized. And I tell Kyle all the time, anything regarding my little munchkin I must be involved with lol. I wanted to go with something a little on the vintage side. And I basically re-worked an outfit you all seen me wear before. The last time I had on this color combo, I wore purple pants. But I was so in love with this skirt that I just had to wear it.

Top: H&M| Skirt: Thrift Store| Shoes: Macy's| Belt: DOTS| Bag: Urban Outfitters

I always loved bags that have removable straps. It makes it so much easier to change the look, style and feel of a bag.

There you have it loves. Until next time.

A Trip to Maine & Rhode Island pt.2

Hey Loves,

So if you read my last post, you all would know that I was in Maine for a wedding. I made a point that weekend to step away from the blog. to really enjoy the sights, enjoy the wedding, and to enjoy the young man that I was with. As I mentioned, if you follow me on instagram, you know that I searched HIGH AND LOW for a dress to this damn wedding lol You would've thought I was getting married lol After about 3 malls and countless stops as stores, I settled on this beautiful cobalt blue shift dress with bat wing sleeves.

And in true Shainna fashion, it came together last minute, but I couldn't be happier with how it came out. I felt so pretty, I felt sexy, and I made sure I showed out in true Shainna fashion.

Dress: Asos| Belt: H&M| Sunglasses: Forever 21

Earrings & Necklace: Random Store| Shoes: Payless| Bag: Unique Thrift| Ring: Forever 21

My friend Rashad, I had the pleasure of being his date for the weekend. He played the music at the wedding. The groom, as I mentioned is his college roommate and his colleague. I must say we look GREAT together!

The wedding was absolutely beautiful. So different and somewhat unconventional. The wedding Gods held the rain so that Monika & Coy could have a beautiful day for the 2 of them to become one.

Check out more pics of the wedding on my facebook fan page. Until next time loves.

Model Spotlight; Christina Mendez

Hey Loves,

I know I'm suuuuuuuper late with this post. But better late than never right. So it is time for another model spotlight. This woman, has always been an inspiration to me. I have been following her career for quite some time. Even when she had her kids, and she still bounced back to that model body, I had to give my girl 2 snaps and a twirl. She is an awesome model & mother. Ladies meet Christina Mendez!

Name: Christina Mendez
Clothing Size: 14
Website: christinamendez.com

What made you want to become a model?
I’ve always loved fashion as a little girl; growing up with my grandmother and mother hey were always fashionable and made sure I was as well. When I was in high school, I walked in some local fashion shows to test the waters...I LOVED IT!

What are some of the brands that you have worked with?
Some brands I’ve been honored to work with are: Qristyl Fraizer Designs, Ashley Stewart, Sofia Vergara for Kmart, Madrag, Cyberswim, Baby Phat, Rocawear, House of Dereon, PZI Jeans etc..

How long have you been working?
I've been modeling since high school but started plus size modeling in 2006.

So many girls want to become a model what advice would give them? What
should they expect?
Be able to take criticism, be smart, and be focused! I always warn girls/women of making sure they do their own research before going to castings and providing information to questionable organizations....your safety and identity are priority #1.
Also, some aspiring models get distracted from their overall goal. Yes, you can have fun, but if you party too much it shows in your brand which is you (ex: in your face, your body). As a model you need to have stamina and patience, you can’t have that with a hangover from partying the night before.

A common misconception is that plus size/curvy/thick models live unhealthy life
styles. What do you say to people who think like that?
I believe you can be unhealthy at any size! I think many folks forget and just focus on if your plus size you are immediately unhealthy. Never judge before you know all the facts! I can out run some of my skinny friends.

Was this your dream career? How did you get to this point in your career?
I think my dream career was to be a model! I began modeling again in 2008 when BET had an open call for “Rip The Runway” and I was selected to walk the catwalk that year. I wanted to see if I would still like modeling after my hiatus of a marriage, birth of my son, and my son’s autism diagnosis. Much of my life was halted after his diagnosis, but when he started to grownup, accomplish goals/defying the odds , and begin schooling, I wanted to see if modeling could still be possible. It’s difficult to juggle my family life (which always comes first) & my dream career on a daily basis, but with the grace of god and family support system I’m making it happen.

If you could be doing anything else other than modeling, what would it be?
I love kids! I would most likely be owning a daycare or teaching PreK/1st graders.

Where do you get your confidence from? How do you stay in a positive frame of mind?
I get my confidence from my mother and grandmother. Growing up in a prominently female household...they always taught me that I should always keep my head held up high and I definitely pass that on to my children. I’m gonna be honest though, being in this industry can be draining at times with negativity...I have to separate myself through other activities whether it’s meditation, or a run on a jogging path to have a clear head.

Why do you think it so important for plus size/curvy/thick models to have the same respect as straight size models?
It’s absurd that we don’t have the respect we deserve. It all goes back to when (in my opinion) the plus community was ignored by the masses and were given over shaped outfits with no glimmer of style .Now, slowly companies are wising up and seeing that we love appreciate fashion just as much as a size 2 or 4.

So many girls grow with such low self esteem. Were you ever like that? If so
what advice would you give young girls struggling with her self esteem?
Growing up I didn't have a low self esteem however as I grew older I battled with
Self esteem issues. After having my son, my body changed and with the diagnosis of his Autism, I gave up on my appearance and just focused on him, his health/well being. With the combination of everything happening to me and my family, it took a direct hit on my self esteem. I hated being around large crowds and avoided the social scene... I know how hard it is to not like the mirror reflection. My best advice to any young lady is to take baby steps towards the person you want to be. I didn't get my sexy confidence overnight and I can't say I am completely there now but I am closer than I was 9/10 years ago.

The last couple questions are just to have fun with….
1. HäagenDazs or Ben & Jerry?
I have a killer sweet tooth so I don't discriminate. Either one works for me
2. Favorite TV show growing up?
I loved Diff’rent Strokes as a kid!
3. Favorite Halloween costume?
Anything that starts with sexy...sexy maid, sexy cop, sexy angel, sexy sexy sexy. That is my day to show skin in October.
4. Louis Vuitton or Hermes?
I’ve never been hooked on labels so I rather spend that money on outfits, statement pieces, & accessories However, if I am gifted a Hermes or Louis Vuitton I wouldn't be rude and not accept.. please and thank you.
5. Buying your boyfriend his favorite video game or those new pair of shoes?
I would say video game because they say if you buy a man shoes they will walk all over you...we don't want that lol.

There you have it loves. Head to youtube to see her spotlight video! Until next time loves.

A Trip to Maine & Rhode Island pt.1

Hey Loves,

I had the awesome chance to travel to Maine this past weekend for a wedding. A friend of mine asked me to be his date to the wedding of his college roommate and colleague. When he asked me, I knew from the jump that I wanted to go. And you know that meant me needing to find something to wear. Which most of you know, if you follow me on instagram, I struggled finding a dress. But you'll see that in my next post.

The 1st night we arrived in Maine, I got to hang out with the Bride and the rest of the bridal party. I don't have pictures, cause my outfit wasn't anything spectacular. But I must say I had a great time.

Friday was the rehearsal and the cocktail reception. It was held at RiRas which is an Irish Pub. It was so fitting being that the groom Coy, truly believes that he is Irish lol (Irish since '93 lol ) It was cute, and fun, and I made sure I was on my best behavior.

This outfit, I had to take when I got home cause I some how forgot to take pics while in the midst of having fun lol

I always loved an exposed zipper if its done right.

I loved the studded detail on the arm. So me.

These shoes are soooooo comfortable!
Top: Fashion to Figure| Jeans: Rainbow| Shoes: Shoedazzle| Bag: Call it Spring

So there you have it loves. Stay tuned for the next post. My outfit I wore for the wedding. To see more pics, head to my facebook page. Until next time loves.
